    EVM malfunction

    Voting for the second and penultimate phase of Assam assembly elections on Thursday was temporarily stopped at polling stations at Silchar and Nagaon due to EVM malfunctions

    E-Rickshaw facility for 60+ voters been given in Cachar especially to those who have difficulty in mobility. They are also being felicitated for their will to cast their vote.

    PM Narendra Modi urges people of Assam to exercise their franchise

    “Second phase of the Assam polls takes place today. Requesting all eligible voters of this phase to strengthen the festival of democracy by exercising their franchise,” PM Modi tweeted.

    39 constituencies to go for polls in second phase

    All the 39 constituencies are spread over 13 districts of the Barak Valley, three hill districts, and parts of central and lower Assam. The Barak Valley has 15 seats in the 126-member state assembly.

    Polling stations

    As many as 8,998 polling stations will be there in this phase and the number of auxiliary polling stations is 1,594 at 5,774 polling locations.


    In view of the worsening COVID-19 situation, the Election Commission (EC) had issued guidelines lowering the maximum number of voters per polling booth from 1,600 to 1,000.

    Polling personnel

    Over 42,300 polling personnel have already been deployed for the second phase of Assam Assembly elections.

    EVM malfunction

    Voting has been temporarily stopped at polling station number 146 at Nirtamoyee Balika Vidyalaya, due to EVM malfunction. Voting delayed at polling station number 26 at Nowgong Law College in Nagaon, due to EVM malfunction. Another EVM malfunction has been reported in Udalguri. The malfunctioning has been reported in Gumgaon Primary School (right side) polling station.

    Electors eligible to vote

    A total of 73,44,631 electors are eligible to vote in phase-2. Of these, 37,34,537 are males while 36,09,959 are females and 135 are transgender.

    Prominent faces of BJP in fray

    The fate of many prominent faces from the BJP and ministers like Parimal Suklabaidya from Dholai, Bhabesh Kalita from Rangiya, Pijush Hazarika, Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, Sum Ronghang, Rihon Daimary, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary from Paneri, former Congress minister Siddeque Ahmed, sitting MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, will be sealed in the second phase of assembly election.
