Local rock band Lady Midday gifts song ‘Away From Us’ to Rhinos
Guwahati: This Bihu, a Guwahati-based western rock band Lady Midday has released a song dedicated to the Rhinos of Assam and also to denounce the poachers.
Through the music video of the song ‘Away from us’, the band tried to deliver a beautiful message about the serious crisis of poaching of the one-horned rhino.
“We just want to instill some awareness in our fellow humans and request all to be a little empathetic on the lives of our voiceless friends who just want to live their lives,” the band said.
Rhino poaching is an infamous phenomenon in Assam. The one horn rhino is one of the world’s most unusual species, amounting to 85 per cent of the total rhino population.
Rampant poaching for their horns had been a menace in the state. According to a census conducted in September 2020, Assam has a rhino population of just 2,640 (approximately).
Since 2013, more than 90 rhinos have been poached, with Kaziranga National Park accounting for the majority of the deaths.
This song ‘Away From Us’ is about hope, truth, and question to the people, “What kind of world it would have been without religion, God, and supernatural beliefs what if the life that we are living in the strangest and the most beautiful experience in the world?”, the band added.
Lady Midday India is an alternative rock band from Guwahati comprising of Himon Choudhury (vocals, guitars), Hirak Jyoti Kalita (guitar, backing vocals), Riaz Ahmed (guitar, backing vocals), Adnan Ahmed (bass guitar), and Boris Pegu (drums, percussion).
Speaking to TIME8, Riaz said, “Just like any other songs that we write. We believe that if the music we make doesn’t resonate with our beliefs and vision as responsible human beings, it’s all pointless. So we always try to take up some issues in the society or a cause while writing songs.”
When asked Adnan about the message behind the song, he said, “Through this song and music video, we want to raise awareness about this serious crisis and educate people about rhino poaching and the impact it has in the world, hoping that they will contribute to conservation.”
Earlier, the band released a music video called ‘Curtains Not Yet Down’, in which they addressed one of the most alarming atrocities of this generation ‘depression’.
Formed in 2014 by friends Himon Choudhury and Boris Pegu, the band has since released five singles and two music videos. The band is heavily inspired by modern rock sound. Bands like U2, Radiohead, 30 Seconds to Mars, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Foo Fighters, etc.
