Locals block road at Silchar over youth’s death

Silchar, November 9: The local residents staged a road blockade at Rangirkhari Point in Silchar demanding stern punishment for the culprits who had thrashed and beaten a youth to death on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Sujit Das, a resident of Rangirkhari in Silchar.

As per reports, Sujit was beaten and thrashed by a group of men which left him grievously injured. When the locals saw an injured Sujit, they immediately rushed him to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) from where he was referred to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.

While on the way to NEIGRIHMS, Sujit succumbed to his injuries.

The death of Sujit has created a hue and cry among the locals and people blocked the roads and staged a protest.

Later when the situation turned out of control, the district administration had to deploy CRPF jawans to curb the situation.

Additional SP (Headquarters) Rakesh Reddy told media persons, “We received a complaint from the family of the deceased. We shall also examine the CCTV footage from the locality where the incident took place.”
