Locals help arrest four cattle smugglers in Cachar

Guwahati/Cachar, September 13: Police today presented the four cattle smugglers, who were arrested from Digarkhal in southern Assam’s Cachar district last Wednesday night to the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Cachar.

Sources said Saidul Islam, Enamul Haque, N. Sarto and H. Chadong were nabbed by local residents at Digarkhal when they were taking nine cows on two mini-trucks to Meghalaya. Saidul and Enamul belong from Khelma village in Cachar district, while the other two are from Meghalaya.

On being informed the Gumrah police reached the spot and arrested the four and took the vehicles into custody. The cows were kept in a house near the spot, sources in police said.

It may be mentioned that complaints of cattle smuggling have been pouring in from various parts of Barak Valley to Meghalaya that shares border with Bangladesh, over the past few months.
