Gohpur, December 6: A group of nature lovers in Gohpur along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border have joined hands together and pledged to take responsibility of preserving migratory birds of their village.
The pledge comes in wake of threat to the survival of the seasonal birds.
As per the locals of Purbajyoti Nigam every year large flocks of migratory birds including water birds come to visit the Kuwarigarh pond during the winter season. The villagers know the time of their arrival from wind direction.
Migration of birds is the regular seasonal movement, often north and south along a flyway, between breeding and wintering grounds.
“We have come together to preserve the birds and feels great. Migratory birds are of great ecological and economic value to the governments. Keeping a close watch at the birds so that these species do not fall prey to hunting,” added a local.
