GUWAHATI: Due to the ongoing Covid situation in the state of Meghalaya, the Meghalaya government has extended the lockdown in the Shillong urban agglomeration from 5:00 AM of 14th June, 2021 till 5:00 AM of 21st June, 2021.
Political, public, social and religious gatherings are not permitted and all tourists spots shall remain closed.
Entry of tourists from outside the state shall not be permitted and all tourist spots shall remain closed.
The ordered mentioned that Inter-State movement of persons shall be restricted. This shall not be applied for transit vehicles of Assam/Tripura/Manipur/Mizoram.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner/SDO(CiviL) are authorized to permit limited of commercial establishments/shops and other non-essential economic activities on need basis based on local situation, stated the order.
Weddings and sports are not permitted.
Funeral gatherings to be restricted to 10 persons with prior permission of the respective Deputy Commissioners/SDO (Civil).
However, there are some exceptions mentioned in the order.
Health services including services and vaccination are allowed to function.
Print and electronic media, NARI/1917i teams, Petrol Pumps, LPG Distributors, Farming activities in rural areas (including betel nut and betel leaf), MGNREGA in rural areas, essential veterinary services including feed and fodder movement for livestock for farmers are excused from the order.
Conrad Sangma, Meghalaya chief minister took to twitter and said, “In order to safeguard the State from an uncontrollable surge in #Covid_19, the Containment Measures issued on 11th of June,2021 will be reinstated throughout the State w.e.f 21st June 2021 until further notice.”

In Meghalaya, it is observed that the numbers of covid-19 cases are still on the rise and there is a major rise in rural areas of the state. On the other hand, the positivity rate in five districts in in surplus 10% viz, West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, South West Agro Hills, East Garo Hills and Ri Bhoi.
Sangma also mentioned in twitter, “DCs are empowered to take decisions based on local situation. We reiterate our appeal to citizens to get #vaccinated. Vaccination is picking up pace in the State but we must continue our efforts and encourage others to take the jab. No one is safe until everyone is safe.”
44382 people are so far affected in Meghalaya by covid-19. Out of 44382, 38792 people have recovered.
