Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will contest from the Tura Parliamentary seat on the Congress ticket. Meanwhile, sitting party MP Vincent Pala will seek re-election from the Shillong seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

It may be noted that the former Union minister Agatha K. Sangma, the youngest daughter of former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma, will contest from the Tura parliamentary seat in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

Agatha, who won from Tura constituency in 2009 parliamentary elections, had won the Meghalaya Assembly elections from South Tura in 2018. The Tura constituency remains a stronghold of the late PA Sangma family.  Since 1977 and until his demise, late Sangma had represented Tura in the Lok Sabha for nine terms.

Pala, on the other hand, will contest against with Meghalaya Democratic Alliance candidate Jemino Mawthoh.

The election to the two Lok Sabha seats – Shillong and Tura – will be held on April 11th, 2019.
