Ahead of polls, I-T department starts helplines

With the 2019 Lok Sabha elections round the corner, the Investigation Directorate of the Income Tax Department, North East Region (NER)has launched toll-free and WhatsApp numbers where people can call and inform officials about the usage of black money, gold etc.
The Investigation Directorate of the Income Tax Department, North East REgion (NER) has also deployed Surveillance Teams in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura.
Air Intelligence Units in all the airports of the Northeastern states has also been set up. A control room, which operates 24×7, was set up by the I-T NER directorate in the above-mentioned state capitals.
The Investigation Directorate of the Income Tax Department (NER), Guwahati has opened a 24×7 control room and Complaint Monitoring Cell at all the seven states of the region.
The Income Tax department has appealed the public to communicate information pertaining to “black money and movement of a large amount of cash/valuables during the election period”. Anyone who witnesses black money, cash, gold, silver etc. being used by election candidates during campaigning, can dial these numbers and officers will visit the spot.
As per the direction of the Election Commission of India, the Income Tax Department is monitoring the movement of cash/valuables or other items suspected to be used for bribing of electors during the Lok Sabha elections.
The Lok Sabha elections in Northeast will be held in three phases on April 11th, 18th and 23rd, 2019. The election in Assam will be held in three phases. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim will single phase election. The election in Manipur and Tripura will be held in two phases.
