The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) will contest from Kokrajhar (17.49 lakh voters) and Mangaldoi (17.75 lakh voters) seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
Former Rajya Sabha MP, and president of the UPPL, UG Brahma has been named as the candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat. On the other hand, former All Bodo Students’ Union vice president Pradeep Daimary will contest from the Mangaldai Lok Sabha seat.
Brahma contested as Independent from Kokrajhar in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and came second with 2.79 lakh votes. Independent Naba Kumar Sarania, a former ULFA militant, had recorded a massive victory with 6.34 lakh votes.
The Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front has decided to field Pramila Rani Brahma as the party candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha. Mohilary said that the main fight will be against the ABSU-backed candidate in Kokrajhar seat.
The Lok Sabha elections in Assam will be held in three phases on April 11th, 18th and 23rd, 2019. The results of the election will be announced on May 23rd, 2019.
Polling in Mangaldoi and Kokrajhar will take place on April 18th and April 23rd, 2019 respectively.
