Guwahati, April 23, 2019

Four Lok Sabha seats of Assam will go to polls in the third phase of Lok Sabha election on April 23rd, 2019. The four parliamentary constituencies where polling is underway are – Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta and Gauhati.

A total of 54 candidates are in the fray from these four seats. The fate of these candidates will be decided by 7477062 voters, which includes 3815335 male, 3661570 female and 157 voters in Third Gender category.

A total of 9577 polling stations have been set up in these four parliamentary constituencies for the smooth conduct of the election. The poll timings in Assam in Phase 3 is: 7 am to 5 pm.

In Assam, prominent candidates in the fray are two sitting MPs All India United Democratic Front chief Badruddin Ajmal in Dhubri and Independent Naba Sarania in Kokrajhar, state social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma of Bodoland People’s Front from Kokrajhar and Congress MLA Abdul Khaleque.

The Gauhati seat will witness a prestige battle between former Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Queen Oja and film and TV personality Bobbeeta Sharma of the Congress.

2:30 pm: Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh lands in Guwahati to cast his vote during the third round of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Singh was given a warm welcome at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by APCC chief Ripun Bora along with other Congress leaders following which he directly headed to Dispur and exercised his franchise.

8:00 am: Polling has not yet started in PS 211-Rajendra Narayan Dev ME School of Hatigaon of Guwahati due to EVM dysfunction.

7:50 am: Polling has begun in the lower Assam districts and in entire BTAD area amid tight security. Several battalions of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the entire BTAD and lower Assam districts apart from regular patrolling by police.
