The Congress is eyeing at least 20 seats out of the total 25 seats in the region in the upcoming general elections. All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi urged the party workers to work towards achieving the goal.
In the last general elections, the Congress won just three seats out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state while the BJP won seven seats. The general elections, 2019 are expected to be held in April and May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha.
Rahul kicked off his party’s campaign in Guwahati for the forthcoming general elections on February 26th, 2019. He addresses a huge gathering at Guwahati’s Khanapara and later addressed the North-East Co-ordination Congress Committee – which comprises of former chief ministers of the party in the Northeast region along with Pradesh Congress Committee presidents of the region, including Sikkim – meeting at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Convention Centre, Guwahati.

Urging the party workers to pull up their socks, Rahul said the main agenda concerning this region for the ensuing polls will be Assam National Register of Citizens, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and unemployment.
