Lok Sabha Polls 2019: Agatha K Sangma To Contest From Tura, Jemino Mawthoh From Shillong

The former Union minister Agatha K. Sangma, the youngest daughter of former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma, will contest from the Tura parliamentary seat in the ensuing Lok Sabha election. Agatha, who won from Tura constituency in 2009 parliamentary elections, had won the Meghalaya Assembly elections from South Tura in 2018.

“The decision has been taken unanimously by the alliance,” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.

At age of 29, Agatha was the youngest Minister of State in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet. She was first elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in a by-election in May 2008 after her father P.A. Sangma resigned from the seat to join state politics. Later, she was re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha where she was the youngest MP.

On the other hand, United Democratic Party’s Jemino Mawthoh will contest from the Shillong constituency on the own party symbol.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is a partner of the Meghalaya coalition government, has announced that it would contest the Lok Sabha election. to be held on April 11th, 18th and 23rd, 2019. The BJP has decided to field its own candidates from the state’s two parliamentary constituencies.
