Itanagar, January 10: Chief Minister Pema Khandu unveiled the country’s longest 300-metre single-lane steel cable motorable suspension bridge over Siang river.
The bridge will benefit about 20,000 people residing on both sides of the river, Khandu said on Wednesday.
“The newly opened bridge named as Byorung Bridge will strengthen defence preparedness and will reduce the distance from Yingkiong to Tuting by almost 40 km, whose earlier road length was 192 km,” he said.
The Byorung bridge is built at a cost of Rs 48.43 crore and it is funded by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources Scheme.

Khandu in his speech also added that the Centre has sanctioned 268 road projects worth Rs 3,800 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Two projects for Upper Siang have been sanctioned and are awaiting tender also a 35 km road from Paling to Zido worth Rs 82.10 crore and 30 km road from Zido to Bishing worth Rs 42.46 crore has been sanctioned.
He also laid the foundation stone of the District Secretariat building at Yingkiong, the headquarters of Upper Siang district.
