After the opposition, Congress in Meghalaya announced former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s candidature from Tura parliamentary seat, National People’s Party (NPP) leader Conrad Sangma expressed his confidence on winning the Tura seat.
Conrad addressing the media outside the assembly said that the NPP is getting a warm response at the grassroots level and the party is upbeat to win the Tura parliamentary seat. “The party has been working hard and the people are noticing it. I am sure our good work will be noticed and people will vote for the party”, Sangma said.
It may be mentioned, Conrad who represented Tura in Lok Sabha left the seat last year in order to win a seat in the state assembly to continue as the Chief Minister of the state.
On March 11th, 2019, the ruling National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government announced that it would jointly field former Union Minister Agatha K. Sangma from the Tura Lok Sabha seat and United Democratic Party (UDP)’s Jemino Mawthoh from Shillong. Agatha is the sister of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the youngest daughter of former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma.
