Guwahati: As many as 40 Shiv Sena MLAs reached Assam along with Shiv Sena minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday and said that they will carry Balasaheb Thackeray’s Hindutva.
Amid deepening political turmoil in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, Shinde along with other MLAs reached Guwahati from Surat in Gujarat and are currently staying at a Hotel Radisson Blu.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Milind Narvekar, the personal assistant of the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Ravindra Fatak held a meeting with Eknath Shinde at Surat’s Le Meridien hotel in an attempt to pacify him and convince him to return.
Whereas, Shinde’s remarks came as speculation is rife that he along with 40 MLAs might join the BJP in a bid to topple the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
“A total of 40 Shiv Sena MLAs are present here. We will carry Balasaheb Thackeray’s Hindutva,” said Shinde after arriving in Guwahati.
The Shiv Sena ministers along with all the 40 MLAs were received by BJP MLA Sushanta Borgohain and BJP MP Pallab Lochan Das at Guwahati airport.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had called a Cabinet meeting at 1 pm on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the party has removed Shinde from the post of party group leader, replacing him with MLA Ajay Chaudhary.
