Agartala: The Vice-President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday unveiled 15 climate resilient roads worth Rs 444.06 crore from Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Smart Cities Mission at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala city.
At the unveiling ceremony and civic reception, the vice-president of India was accompanied by the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, union minister of state for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, and Chief Secretary Kumar Alok.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President of India, Naidu focused in ‘Three Ds’- No Delay, no Deviation, and no Dilution. With these 3-Ds, the Tripura government should work with zero-tolerance towards corruption. Corruption is the enemy of the development.
The Vice-President said, “Funds has been doubled in recent years, these funds should be made to reach people. The government and its local administration who are distributing points should maintain transparency of governance and accountability in deliverance system”.
Naidu added,“Ruling party and opposition has to work together for development of state. In politics, politicians should respect each other. Political parties should compete in developmental story. I wish to see North East develops vastly”.
Speaking about Smart Cities Mission, the Vice-President said that the capitals of North Eastern states were included under this project irrespective of their sizes and they were funded as well. All roads in the capital cities of states in NE region would be converted into climate resilient roads. These roads will have far-reaching impact.
“The project will not only de-congest the city, but also provide better facilities to the residents of Agartala. I call upon the people of Agartala city to cooperate with administration; there will be some temporary inconvenience, temporary pain for long term gain. People should come forward to join the developmental stream. Good connectivity is a prerequisite for overall development of any region, connectivity is the key towards development”, he claimed.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here in Agartala, the Vice-President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu was welcomed by the Chief Minister Deb, Deputy Chief Minister Dev Varma and union minister of state Bhoumik.
