    Major Blow To ULFA-I, Security Forces Nab OG Workers, Bust Recruitment Racket

    Around 5-6 of them were about to move towards Tinsukia and across to Myanmar after getting together at Namrup, informed security forces

    In a major blow to the banned United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent, ULFA-I, the security forces have nabbed three Over Ground(OG) workers and busted a major recruitment racket in Namrup in the late evening hours of December 28th, 2019.

    Acting on reliable information, a team of Dangri Kumar Army Camp, Sapekhati Army Camp and the Assam Police launched a joint operation in Namrup and nabbed (OG) worker Rantu Sonowal alias Ran Asom alias Maina(25), resident of Rohmari, Dibrugarh. Based on his inputs Vidyut Chiringia(19), resident of Naharkatiya and Jishu Borah(27) resident of Karbi Anglong were apprehended.

    According to an official release, Rantu took shelter at a rented house in Namrup and operated from there. He was responsible of distributing and hoisting ULFA-I flags at various occasions, recruiting youths and extortion activities for the banned outfit.

    One Pistol with rounds, two ULFA-I flags were recovered from the OG.

    “The apprehensions is a big blow to the nefarious design of ULFA-I to misguide youths on a various pretext and make them join the outfit and trying to revive their lost ground” the release read.

    During preliminary interrogation, it has been revealed that around  5-6 of them were about to move towards Tinsukia and across to Myanmar after getting together at Namrup and neighbouring areas of Charaideo district.

    The apprehended along with the seized them have been handed over to Namrup Police.

    Further interrogations are on to ascertain facts.
