    Major fire breaks out at Shirui peak in Manipur, CM seeks help from Union Govt

    Guwahati: A major fire broke out at a forest at the Shirui peak situated in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. This comes months after a massive forest fire had broken out at the Dzukou valley in Nagaland bordering Manipur.

    The Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had sought help from the central government to douse a forest fire that has broken out at the Shirui peak situated in Manipur’s Ukhrul district.

    Taking to Twitter, Singh said, “Very unfortunate to see the fire spreading at Shirui Peak, Ukhrul District, Manipur,”

    CM Singh has also spoken to Addl. Secretary, at the office of the Home Minister of India to extend all possible help from NDRF to douse the fire.

    “An official letter has also been sent from the CS, GoM. Why are we so selfish & destructive?” Singh questioned in his tweet.

    Meanwhile, PRO Shillong, Ministry of Defence tweeted saying, “On the requisition of the State Government of Manipur, the Indian Air Force is in the process of deploying two Mi-17V5 helicopters, equipped with Bambi Bucket to douse the fire in Siroy Hills, Ukhrul district.”
