    Majuli And Nalbari Raas To Be Promoted Like Ambubachi Mela: ATDC

    The Tourism department will launch the official logo of the Raas Festival on World Tourism Day

    The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Mallah Baruah on September 24th, 2019 announced that the government is keen to promote the Majuli and Nalbari Raas Festivals nationally on the lines Ambubachi Mela.

    The Tourism department will launch the official logo of the Raas Festival on World Tourism Day to be celebrated on September 27th, 2019. The ATDC has also made elaborate arrangements to organize the World Tourism Day.

    Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the chairman informed that the two-day long World Tourism Day celebration will be marked open with a cycle rally followed by a quiz competition for the college-level students at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will grace the cultural evening to begin from 4 pm.

    In addition, higher officials of the department will also hold a meeting with the homestay owners to explore the future prospects. As many as 28 homestays will be inaugurated in different tourism hotspots including Majuli, Kaziranga on September 27th, 2019.

    The department is planning to promote the tourism industry through extensive use of the photo-sharing app Instagram. The department has also kept a designated hashtag for sharing posts on Instagram i.e. #DiscoverAssam. The ATDC has decided to organize carnival of mobile theatres of Assam in Nalbari.

    It may be noted, to promote Assam as a global tourist destination, the government is planning to host the Filmfare Awards ceremony in Guwahati. The State government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the tourism sector in the Assam Budget 2019.
