Man beaten to death on suspicion of cattle theft in Tripura; Two arrested
Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob that suspected him as a cattle thief in Baramura area under the Sepahijala district in Tripura.
According to reports, two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
The deceased identified as Litan Miah was a resident of Tarapukur in the Jatrapur police station area in the Sonamura subdivision, informed sources.
A police team rushed to the spot and found him critically injured after being thrashed by a group of youths who claimed that he was a cattle thief.
The police sources informed that the injured man was first taken to a local hospital; from there he was referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala as his condition was critical. However, he died on the way to that hospital, said the source.
As the news of the incident spread, hundreds of locals blocked the road at nearby Dhanpur demanding immediate arrest of the culprits behind the incident.
Notably, a complaint was lodged by the father of the deceased, Jamal Miah, following which two people were arrested.
Those arrested were Sentu Debnath and Amar Chandra Das.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder).
