Guwahati: A 49 years old man has been on run after allegedly chopping off the hand of his 75-year-old mother in an inebriated condition following a brief quarrel in Tripura’s Gomati district.

The incident took place on Saturday night in the Pauamura area of Grajee.

The victim has been identified as Namita Ghosh, while the accused has been identified as Bimal Ghosh.

As per sources, after a brief argument over cash, when Namita refused to offer the cash, the accused attacked her with a sharp weapon.

The neighbours ignored the chaos as a regular affair initially, but late in the night people heard loud screams of the elderly lady freaking out in extreme pain, sources said.

Following the chaos, a neighbour rushed to Ghosh resident and found her lying on the floor bleeding profusely with the lower part of her right-hand severed from her body, sources added.

The accused was beaten up seriously by neighbours before he could escape from the spot, sources claimed.

Currently, victim is in serious due to blood loss and is undergoing treatment.

The weapon was seized from the spot by police. Meanwhile, district police have launched search operation to detain accused.

Further investigation is underway.
