Guwahati: A man allegedly attacked her daughter-in-law with a machete by chopping off her hands and surrendered before the police station in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Sunday.

The victim has been as identified as Sangeeta Kumari.

As per sources, the locals reached the spot and immediately rushed the victim to Tinsukia Civil Hospital in critical condition after hearing the hue and cry.

She was later referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for advanced treatment.
Sources said that one of the neighbours who gathered at the spot soon after the incident he received a call from husband of the victim saying that his father has attacked his wife with a machete.

After receiving the information, he rushed to the spot and saw the victim lying on the ground with blood stains all around. He immediately took victim to the civil hospital.

Meanwhile, the accused father-in-law surrendered before Tinsukia Police and handed over the weapon used in the attack. He has been arrested and booked under attempt to murder charges.

The accused has been identified as Harinder Prasad.

However, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Further investigation is underway.
