Dibrugarh, October 12: A man died after transfusion of reportedly wrong group of blood at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), triggering tension in the area and announcement of an inquiry on Friday.
Angry over the incident, the family members and relatives of the man lodged an FIR against the hospital of medical negligence.
The patient identified as Sidheswar Moran (75) was admitted in the AMCH on Wednesday for a surgery. After undergoing the surgery, Moran was advised to undergo blood transfusion. He died “instantly” during the blood transfusion on Friday, the family members alleged.
Moran was a retired school teacher and a resident of Kakopathar Bormesai in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
“His (Moran) blood group was O+ but he was given B+ blood. He underwent a surgery for a fractured leg. He died instantly…within minutes after the transfusion started,” said a family member.
On the other hand, the AMCH authorities have announced to form an inquiry committee. The committee would investigate the matter and submit a report in the next 24 hours, as per reports.
