The Guwahati police arrested a man from Fancy Bazar area on charges of looting cash from the donation box of Shiva temple located near the Nemcare Super Speciality Hospital in Bhangagarh.

Interestingly, as per the CCTV footage, the man was wearing a jersey with ‘Assam Police’ written on the back at the time of committing the crime. The incident took place at around 4 am on September 15th, 2019. The man has been identified as Ratnakanta Doley alias Sri Ram (Benga). He hails from Bonipather in Lakhimpur district and presently resides in Six Mile area of the city.

As per the footage, he succeeded to break the lock of the donation box using iron bars and metal cutter after struggling for around 20 minutes. He carefully collected the coins and currency notes and moved away from the spot.

The Fancy Bazar police nabbed Doley on September 15th, 2019. A case (No 392/ 2019) under section 379 (Punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered with the Bhangagarh Police against the accused.
