Man lynched, another seriously injured by mob in North Tripura
Agartala: Tension gripped at the Kadamtala area of Dharmanagar in North Tripura district after a man was allegedly lynched on the suspicion of cattle theft. The incident took place on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Ahidul Islam (32).
According to reports, the family members of the deceased along with local people on Thursday staged a road blockade with the dead body demanding the arrest of the culprits involved in the murder.
It is learned that two people were trying to smuggle cattle by cutting the border fence while BSF jawans were guarding the border late on Tuesday night at the Maheshpur Puran Garad area near the India-Bangladesh border under Kadamtala police station.
Meanwhile, when the BSF chased the suspected smugglers, the people of the area came to the fore and detained them. Both the suspects were beaten black and blue by the locals.
Police of Kadamtala police station reached the spot after receiving the information of the incident.
The two suspected smugglers were rescued by the police and taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital under critical condition. The doctors on duty at the district hospital referred Ahidul Islam and Nasir Uddin to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for better treatment.
Ahidul Islam later succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night at SMCH. On Thursday evening, the relatives of the deceased blocked the road in the new market area of Dharmanagar Kadamtala Road with the dead body of the deceased.
The family members of the deceased claimed, some people came in a car at around 10 pm on Tuesday night and forcibly took Ahidul Islam and Nasir Uddin in a vehicle on the pretext of buying chickens. Since then, they went missing, stated the family members.
Meanwhile, the police of Kadamtala police station rushed to the spot and assured the agitators that action would be taken against the culprits in the course of the investigation. Later, they lifted the blockade.
