Guwahati: Three Manipur government employees were suspended on Friday after they sublet government quarters allotted to them.
The incident occurs roughly a week after Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh issued a warning that unlawful occupants of government-assigned quarters in the state will be evicted and that officials who rent their allotted quarters would face suspension or termination.
A ward attendant at a PHC in Moreh border town, a teacher in Imphal, and a Manipur Works department grade IV employee are among those who have been suspended.
The authority issued a separate decision suspending the trio with immediate effect in accordance with the CCS (CCA) Rules, 1965.
Employees were ordered to stay in their individual headquarters and not to leave without first obtaining permission from the appropriate authority.
Following Singh’s statement, the state issued a notification to all administrative heads instructing them to form verification teams at the state and district levels to verify and check government quarters.
According to the notice, if any government employee or other private party is found occupying government quarters without permission or subletting to someone else, strict disciplinary action, including suspension of the government employee, will be taken under the appropriate section of the CCS (CCA) rules.
The notice further added that even FIRs could be filed.
On Thursday, an IRB jawan was suspended for renting out the government quarter given to him to a civilian.
