Guwahati: In an operation, the troops of Assam Rifles in Manipur intercepted and recovered around 786 grams of Brown sugar worth approx Rs 1.57 Crores near Tengnoupal town on March 4, 2021.
The troops had apprehended the carrier and recovered contraband handed over to Police.
Illegal drugs are a serious issue in Manipur, which shares a border with Myanmar. Large quantities of drugs are smuggled into the state from the Myanmar side and are transported to the rest of the country. There is also rampant cultivation of poppy in Manipur.
It may also be mentioned that earlier on February 22, 2021, the Manipur Police had busted a brown sugar manufacturing factory in Churachandpur district.
The police personnel also destroyed poppy plants cultivated in about 30 acres of land at Zalenkot village under Sangaikot Sub-division in of Churachandpur district.
