Guwahati: A clash broke out between police and protesters during an eviction drive of local structures underway in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Wednesday.

The incident took place in the Chingmeirong area.

According to sources, an eviction team accompanied by the police force came to the area for eviction.

Locals opposed to the eviction confronted the team shortly after that.

The Manipur High Court’s order to vacate the removal of all structures from the scheduled land in the Imphal East district prompted the authorities to begin the eviction effort.

As per protesting locals, the Manipur department manipulated the land records, though the land belonged to their ancestors.

However, the eviction could not take place due to intense protests.

The protester also blocked the main road to protest against the eviction drive.
