Manipur College gets blacklisted by UGC for misappropriation of funds

Imphal, January 12: University Grants Commission (UGC) has blacklisted Manipur College, Singjamei after the College has reportedly misappropriated funds provided to it for utilization of the same for academic purposes.

The Principal-in-charge of the College Kh Jayentakumar was accountable for the misuse of funds in the College against whom State government has reportedly failed to take any action.

The UGC had reportedly discontinued all the existing funds in favour of the College which is affecting both the teachers and students.

Earlier, Manipur College had been awarded Grade – B by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) but as per sources, there are chances of withdrawal of the same by the NAAC.

Kh Jayentakumar was the Principal-In-Charge during 2010-2014 when the funds have been misappropriated. When the UGC came to about the misuse of funds, it not only blacklisted the College but has put on hold all the funds it was released to it.

The State government after blacklisting of the College has appealed to the Commission to reconsider its decision of blacklisting the College as it is affecting the Students and their academic progress. Reportedly, due to lack of funds, the curriculum structure of the College likes conferences, workshops and other academic events are on halt.

UGC in response to the State governments appeal has reportedly said that it will only release funds after making a proper inquiry into the matter.
