Guwahati: Assam Rifles and Manipur police foiled cross-border narcotics smuggling near border pillar number 39 in Suangphu village in Churachandpur district on Monday, said an official.
A combined team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched the operation based on specific input of the transhipment of narcotics substance near to BP 39 and observed suspicious activity of smugglers near to Suangphu village, said sources.
When confronted by security personnel, the smugglers took advantage of the night, fled into the jungles towards the Indo-Myanmar border, sources added.
During the search operation, the joint security team recovered 690 grams of heroin in 55 soap cases.
Official stated that the estimated value of the recovered heroin was Rs. 2.76 crore.
The recovered drug items have been handed over to Sanaikot Police Station for further investigation.
