Manipur erupts with protests against Citizenship bill

Imphal, January 10: Amidst the ongoing uproar over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 issue, most of the political parties, different organisations and student bodies on Wednesday staged protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Imphal.

Manipur PCC vice president N Loken warned that the Congress would launch a series of agitations against the bill until it is scrapped.

Lashing out at the BJP government over the bill, the Coordinating Body of Trade Unions convener Ksh Shanta said the bill is against the indigenous people of the Northeast.

“The bill, if passed, would jeopardize the identity of the ethnic communities of the Northeastern states,” Shanta said.
