Guwahati: Manipur reported its first COVID-19 death on Wednesday as a 56-year-old man succumbed to the disease at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
RIMS director Ahanthem Santa Singh told media that the deceased was a resident of Khongjom Sapam village in Thoubal district. He was admitted to the institute on May 22 for the treatment of serious kidney problem and hypertension.
On Sunday, the patient had tested COVID-19 positive and succumbed to the virus infection on Wednesday.
Manipur so far has reported at least 2,317 COVID-19 of which 705 were active as 1,612 people have recovered from the disease.
