Manipur: Six new cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus were reported in Manipur on Friday, said official.
The state’s overall number of Omicron variant cases has risen to seven.
One of the new six cases was a female returnee from a foreign country and another is a male visitor to the state. The rest were close contacts. The visitor has already left the state.
According to the official, close contacts were being tracked and containment measures were in place.
All the seven Omicron cases in Manipur were also discharged after getting negative report, stated official.
The results could not be received quickly because Manipur has just one genome sequencing centre for identifying Omicron variants, official claimed.
Meanwhile, on Friday, 116 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported, four of which were from the Central Armed Police Force. With this, the overall number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to 1,26,821, with 944 active cases.
