Guwahati: Unidentified gunmen shot down a BJP leader was shot dead on Tuesday morning in Manipur’s Thoubal district. The deceased was identified as Laishram Rameshwor Singh, the convenor of the ex-servicemen cell of BJP’s state unit.
Police said he was killed in front of his residence gate located in the Kshetri locality in the morning. “Assailants came in a car without a registration plate and shot at Singh from a close range,” police said.
Police added that the gunmen shot him in the chest. Though rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to the injuries.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said, “Deeply pained by the sudden demise of ex-servicemen, NK L Rameshwar who was killed by armed assailants at his residence in Thoubal today. May his soul rest in eternal peace. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family and share their loss and pain.”
