Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom on July 28, 2019, clinched gold in the 23rd President’s Cup in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

The Manipur pugilist defeated Australia’s April Franks 5-0 in the championship in a one-sided 51kg category final.

“Gold medal for me and for my country at President’s Cup Indonesia. Winning means you’re willing to go longer, work harder & give more effort than anyone else. I sincerely thanks to all my Coaches and support staffs of @BFI_official,” Kom tweeted.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju congratulated the world champion and said Kom is a pride for India.

Kom bagged her sixth world title in Delhi in 2018. She will be looking to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the World Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

The 2019 World Boxing Championships for women will be held from September 7 to 21.

It may be mentioned that India Open gold-medallist Jamuna Boro (54kg) will take on Italy’s veteran boxer, Giulia Lamagna after a commanding 5-0 win over Kase Serlin Alin Liliwati of Indonesia.
