Guwahati/Nalbari, July 11: Following the horrific incident in Nalbari where a person was beaten to death by five drunken men for complaining about burning firecrackers at a wedding venue, another clash took place after the family of the deceased demanded for the dead body to be cremated in the courtyard of the Bride’s house.
A massive clash broke out on the spot among the family members of the deceased and the bride’s family which last for at least an hour. In order to control the situation, the police had to initiate a lathi charge on the people.
When the whole violent situation turned normal, the bride’s family was taken into police custody for security reasons.
It may be mentioned that on Tuesday night a person named Jiten Das was allegedly beaten to death by few men for complaining about the bursting of crackers during the groom’s arrival at the wedding.
Speaking to media, Superintendent of Police, Nalbari, Shiladitya Chetia said, “A case has been lodged at the Nalbari Police Station and so far we have apprehended at least six people for directly being involved in the case.”
The six arrested persons are Jiten Talukdar, Bidyut Barman, Dipankar Talukdar, Achyut Talukdar, Harekrishna Talukdar and Barun Talukdar.
Earlier, the groom Mintu Talukdar called off the marriage ceremony but the family members of the groom have finally decided to complete marriage rituals.
