‘Mastermind’ in Jayanta Kachari & Kushal Kalita kidnapping case arrested in Goalpara

Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, the mastermind in the  Jayanta Kachari and Kushal Kalita has been arrested by the Gorchuk police in Goalpara’s Krishnai area on Friday.

Rameshwar Rabha and his gang had kidnapped Jayanta Kachari and Kushal Kalita on June 30, 2021, and demanded a ransom for the safe release of the duo, they said.

However, due to the relentless efforts made by the Assam police, both the businessmen were rescued safely in the Rani forest along the Assam-Meghalaya border on July 3, 2021.

So far Assam police have arrested nine persons in connection to the kidnapping case.

It is to be noted that during the rescue operation launched by Assam police, one of the kidnappers received a bullet injury in the leg, Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta informed while confirming the news on his official Twitter handle.

The state DGP also mentioned that the operation against the kidnappers is still on.

“Kushal Kalita and Jayanta Kachari have been rescued from the kidnappers in Rani forest area by our brave @assampolice personnel just sometimes back. In the operation, one kidnapper has been shot. Operation ongoing. Will post details soon,” DGP Mahanta tweeted on Saturday evening.

Businessman Jayanta Kachari is the younger brother of former BTC executive member Ganesh Kachari.

He is also stated to be the brother-in-law of Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary.
