After people were found violation social distancing protocols in Guwahati amid lockdown to contain spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Assam government ordered the closure of meat and fish selling shops till March 31st, 2020.
Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Chief Secretary, Assam on March 27th, 2020 order the closure of all markets until further order except grocery and pharmacy.
“All meat, fish, shops will remain closed till March 31st, 2020. It will be reviewed on April 1st, 2020. Grocery shops will provide vegetables, fruits, eggs, gingers, garlic and water etc,” as per the order issued by Krishna.
The Chief Secretary also directed the Deputy Commissioners to organise distribution of vegetable etc. through mobile vans in all are as in alternate days.
“Deputy Commissioners will fix appropriate time of opening of grocery shops as per local convenience. Citizens are directed to follow the advisories for social distances circulated earlier. Violation of the same will attract penal provisions under section 188 IPC,” according to the order.
The State Task Force on March 27th, 2020 reviewed the current status and action for management of coronavirus in Assam under the chairmanship of Krishna.
During the review, the Chief Secretary has asked shopping malls and super markets to explore the possibility of home delivery of essential items. Krishna has also expressed concern as large scale people came out of home for shopping.
