Imphal, September 13 – The Government of Manipur, Department of Taxes, stated that the media houses have to register with Goods and Services tax, in order to avoid penalty. Under the GST, a media organization has to file GST returns, and in case it fails to do so, a heavy penalty can be imposed on it.
An interaction related to the GST took place at the State Institute of Journalism, DIPR Complex, where publishers from different media houses based in Manipur and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations with Editors’ were present.
At the interaction, an official from the Department of Taxes discussed about the impact of the GST on media that included both print, and electronic.
With the implementation of GST on July 1, all newspaper houses and cable operators require to register with GST.
