God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.
— Rudyard Kipling
Mother – that one word that evokes unconditional love and cannot be defined in a single phrase. She is a symbol of selfless love and sacrifice. She gives up on her dreams to support her children to achieve their goals.
Poornima Mondol did exactly the same. She switched multiple jobs to help her three children make a name in sports. Her determination and grit bear fruit when her three children Sujit Mondol, Pradip Mondol and Mallvika Mondol got a chance to represent Assam at the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati.
Sujit plays kho-kho, Pradip hockey and Mallvika football. Speaking to media, Poornima said, “I want my children to excel in sports. I don’t want my children to waste time after school. Earlier they used to go out and it used to worry me. Now, they go out straight to play sports after school hours. Sports was the best option to keep my children occupied.”
She added, “I faced a lot of trouble when they start playing. I had to switch multiple jobs to support their sporting activities or provide sporting equipment. My husband is a carpenter and used to earn quite well at one point. But now he doesn’t get much work.”
Mondol shared that she feels happy when her children win tournaments. “Now my children earn enough money to support their sporting activities. I want my children to make a name for themselves.”
