    Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Removes Brother As Home Minister

    Lahkmen Rymbui of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has been given the charge of home (police) minister

    In a major Cabinet reshuffle, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has removed his younger brother James Sangma as the home minister of the state. He has also been shifted from the district council affairs department.

    The move came in wake of the allegations of his involvement in corruption and illegal transportation of coal by other ministers.

    The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), coalition political parties have been reportedly demanding the removal of James Sangma from his post.

    This was informed through a notification issued by the Cabinet Affairs department on February 11th, 2020. The portfolios of three other cabinet ministers were also relocated under the advice of CM Sangma.

    Lahkmen Rymbui of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has been given the charge of home (police) minister.  He will also continue with his other portfolios of forest and environment, border area development and education.

    James Sangma has been given the portfolios of taxation, power, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, law, information and public relations.

    AL Hek will take charge of health and family welfare, home (jails), home (passports) and arts & culture departments.

    Hamletson Dohling of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has been given the portfolios of Urban Affairs, Municipal Administration, Information Technology, District Council Affairs.
