    Meghalaya: CM Sangma allocates Rs 187 cr for tourism

    Another Rs 50 crore has been allocated for the beautification of Urban areas through competition for the identification of the cleanest and most vibrant locality.

    Guwahati: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, also the finance minister, on Wednesday presented the Budget for 2021-22 with a fiscal deficit of Rs 1,570 crore.

    The minister allocated Rs 187 crore for the promotion of Tourism and Culture and Rs 114 crore for the implementation of the Centrally sponsored Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD programs.

    Sangma said that for 2021-22, an estimate for the total receipt at Rs 17,509 crore, of which the revenue receipts are estimated at Rs 15,232 crore and capital receipts at Rs 2,277.

    To boost tourism and air connectivity an additional amount of Rs 5 crore has been allotted.

    An allocation of Rs 30 crore has been made for the Shillong Peak ropeway.

    Another Rs 50 crore has been allocated for the beautification of Urban areas through competition for the identification of the cleanest and most vibrant locality.

    Significantly, the chief minister in his Budget speech highlighted the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government’s commitment to work in the same momentum in the next year as the state move towards the 50th anniversary of Statehood.

    Sangma allocated Rs 20 crore towards organising all events related to the 50th anniversary of Statehood. A total of Rs 2,579 crore and Rs 694 crore for tax and non-tax revenue collection respectively has been estimated for 2021-22.
