    Meghalaya: Congress MLA David Nongrum passes away at 42

    David Nongrum was first elected as an Independent MLA from Mawryngkneng in 2013. In 2018, he retained his seat as an MLA in Congress ticket.

    Guwahati: Congress MLA David Nongrum passed away in wee hours of Tuesday in Shillong after suffering a cardiac arrest. He turned 42 in January.

    Nongrum was immediately shifted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) after complaining of chest pain. However, the hospital declared him brought dead.

    Two-time MLA from Maweyngkneng, David Nongrum was the son of veteran Congress leader and former Meghalaya speaker Charles Pyngrope.

    Nongrum was first elected as an Independent MLA from Mawryngkneng in 2013. In 2018, he retained his seat as an MLA in Congress ticket.

    Offering condolences to Nongrum, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma tweeted: “Extremely saddened by the sudden demise of Sh. David Nongrum, Hon’ble MLA from Meghalaya. He was a young, dynamic and vocal leader who executed an impactful tenure. My heartfelt condolences to the family in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in peace.”
