Guwahati: A life convict in connection with a murder case escaped from Meghalaya’s Jowai District Jail on Wednesday.

The prisoner identified as Shiningstar Pala, was convicted in a murder case.

A police team has been named and pressed into action to nab the prisoner, said sources.

Meanwhile, an inquiry has been ordered by Inspector General of Prisons, Mariahom Kharkrang.

According to sources, he had previously escaped from the jail in May 2017, but Jowai police immediately nabbed him after he and three accomplices stole mobile phones from a mobile store in Ummulong.

Sources further added that, on January, 2021, two other convicts escaped after they had been taken to Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong.
