Meghalaya cop convicted in twin-rape case by POSCO court

Guwahati: A POSCO court in Meghalaya has convicted an ex-cop for raping two minor sisters at Ampati police station in South West Garo Hills in 2013.

The court has convicted accused Nurul Islam for committing offenses defined and punishable under POSCO Act, 2012 and also IPC Act.

The quantum of sentence will be announced later, the court said.

Earlier on March 13 and March 14, 2014, Islam had raped a 14-year-old girl at the police station. Later on March 31, the same year, he raped her 17-year-old sister too at gunpoint.

Following the incident, the father of the victims filed an FIR against the then officer in charge. In the FIR, the father alleged that the accused threatened to kill both the victims and also to implicate them in criminal cases if they dared to inform anyone regarding the incident.

The case was transferred to East Khasi Hills considering the sensitivity of the case.
