Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit poll-bound Meghalaya on February 24 (Friday), ahead of the Assembly election at the end of this month.
As per a BJP source, PM Modi will address a rally in Tura on February 24.
Modi will also hold a roadshow as a part of the election campaign in Shillong same day where the BJP hopes to secure a large vote share.
The PM will visit Nagaland and hold a mega rally there, as per Nagaland BJP sources.
“PM will also address a public rally to boost the election campaign. Meeting with BJP leader of Meghalaya is also in schedule”, sources added.
This is the first visit of PM Modi to Meghalaya in 2023. BJP source said that the BJP’s election plan has been development and employment in a state with little of either.
On February 16, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a public meeting in North Tura’s Don Bosco Field, Meghalaya. He said that the Modi government has launched the PM-Divine scheme with a budget of Rs. 6,000 crores for the development of the Northeast.
Recently, Union minister and ex-Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, who campaigned in Meghalaya, hinted at the Sangma families’ “nepotism”, both of which have a number of members in the fray.
Earlier BJP President JP Nadda on Wednesday (February 15) released the party’s election manifesto for Meghalaya in the state capital Shillong. The manifesto promises implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in Meghalaya and the timely disbursal of salaries of government employees and many other promises in favour of the state.
