Shillong, December 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Sunday announced Rs 50 lakh assistance for the development of the newly discovered Rongma Gitil Eco-Tourism destination at Kharkutta in the North Garo Hills.
Sangma made this announcement after visiting the two-day tourism festival at Kharkutta on Saturday.
He informed that Rs. 300 crore was sanctioned by the central government for promotion and development of tourism destination in Meghalaya of which Rs. 100 crore will be exclusively used to develop select destinations in Garo Hills.
The CM also said about Rs 18,000 crore has also been allocated for the development of National Highways that would help promoting tourism.
Moreover, Sangma said that the government has allocated an amount or Rs 253 crore for the development of the North Garo Hills.
He also informed that the Conrad Sangma led coalition government in Meghalaya has also given importance on the all round development of the farmers of the state.
“The government has implemented a number of schemes for the welfare of the farmers,” Sangma said.
