Meghalaya HC seeks report from Govt after woman delivers baby in wheelchair


Shillong, September 12: After a woman lost her baby after being reportedly made to sit in a wheelchair during delivery in a government-run hospital in Shillong, the Meghalaya High Court has taken note of the case and  sought a report in this regard from the State government.

On August 29, a woman was admitted in the Ganesh Das Hospital around 9 am. A 4 pm, she was administered a pill for forced labour. She delivered the baby after 2 am on August 30. However, the baby was declared dead more than an hour later, as per reports. As per the hospital, the woman delivered a dead foetus on August 30 at 3.35 am.

The woman later said that she was asked to sit in a wheelchair while the head of the baby was emerging.

Meghalaya Health Minister Alexander L Hek told media that he has sought a report from the hospital in writing.
