Meghalaya: Nidamon Chullet sentenced to life imprisonment in 15 years old murder case

Guwahati: The Court of the Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills District, B Khriam on Wednesday convicted Nidamon Chullet for his involvement in a murder case committed 15 years back.

Chullet has to undergo imprisonment for the offence punishable under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to reports, Chulet murdered one Ewanmi Lhuid in Jowai in February 2008 after a brawl between the two for trivial reasons.

Notably, Chulet is present NPP Working President of the Jaintia Hills region and hold the post of President of JHTOA.

It may also be mentioned that Chullet was also accused to be the main ‘mastermind’ behind the brutal attack and murder attempt on two social activists – Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma at Tuber Sohshrieh village on November 8, 2018.

Meanwhile, speaking to TIME8, social activist Agnes Kharshiing said, “I am just glad that the family of the victim got justice. 15 years! why are cases of murder lingering for decades? He was very much in the place where we were attacked and he knows a lot. The government too knows a lot but were instead promoting him for their political gains. Very sad indeed. We may be having mafia in the power of Governance and these are groomed to scare those who speak out injustice. We cannot allow such governance. Crimes are crimes and a Government cannot support such acts.”
