Guwahati: Heading a rally of over 1500 motorbikes, Meghalaya chief minister and National People’s Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma ‘vroomed’ into the Trinamool’s Meghalaya unit head Mukul Sangma’s bastion of Ampati on Tuesday.
Not only that, but the NPP leader also made one of the biggest poll promises and said that if returned to power, his government would provide 5 lakh jobs within the next five years through various programmes like the PRIME project, a pet project of the government.
He said, “NPP has been working for the welfare of the youth. With programmes like PRIME, we have promoted entrepreneurship in Meghalaya and we will ensure 5 lakh job opportunities in the next five years.”
Sangma even claimed that several Trinamool leaders were in touch with him and willing to leave the Mamata Banerjee-led party. Citing NPP’s dismal performance in the last assembly election in South West Garo Hills area seats, he added that local MLAs from the seats have never approached him for development works.

“Due to such hindrance, development could not get acceleration in the region. People must understand that having MLAs from the ruling party would always serve the best. This time, NPP is getting an absolute majority,” the chief minister said.
In the 2018 elections, in South West Garo Hills, all four seats went to Congress and which later belonged to TMC due to the switching of the party by the leaders.
The 2023 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in Meghalaya on February 27 next to elect all 60 members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
